Golden Autumn 2023: A Journey Through Elements and Time in Kuldiga

Kuldiga, where every stone holds the secrets of history

Kuldiga, a city with breathtaking history and an unforgettable atmosphere, was officially added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023. Here, in the medieval streets, majestic bridges, and waterfalls, took place the last event of the year for the Latvian Caravan Club members. From November 13th to 15th, Kuldiga became a place for adventure, laughter, cultural discoveries, and warm reunions.

Magic in the Old Town and Human Warmth

On Friday evening, club members gathered in the heart of Kuldiga’s Old Town, where every old stone has its own story. In the Kuldiga Town Hall Square, standing under historic arches, the participants forgot about the cold wind swirling around them, exchanging warm embraces and heartfelt greetings. Instead of feeling the chill, they celebrated unity — hugs, smiles, and plans for the next day — this is how their journey began.

Tractors, Storms, and Unstoppable Spirit

Saturday began with the rhythmic sounds of rain tapping on the windows, like drumbeats before a battle, but this only added excitement to the journey. The goal was the World Plowing Championship. Despite storm warnings, the club set off on a large bus, overcoming the challenges of the road.

The championship, which took place under the gray skies, was a metaphor for human perseverance. The tractors, plowing the earth, resembled ancient giants, while the participants — Vikings, challenging nature. “Here, victory doesn’t matter; what matters is how we face these challenges together,” shared one of the event organizers, surprised by the sense of freedom and unity they experienced.

Evening of the Second Day: Inspiration from the Master and the Symphony of the Giant Piano

However, the biggest surprise in Kuldiga lay in the workshop of Davis Kļaviņš, creator of the world’s largest pianos. His instruments — huge, majestic, like Latvia itself — became not only works of art but also voices of the land and metal. During the evening, the master invited guests into his hall, where they became witnesses to a unique concert played on one of his pianos.

“This felt like hearing the very spirit of Latvia,” whispered one of the guests, overwhelmed by the magnificent and magical experience.

The evening continued with a rich table set with traditional Latvian dishes, dancing, contests, and children’s games, creating a festive atmosphere where every moment was filled with joy and gratitude for this unique experience.

Three: The Last Pancakes of Autumn

Sunday morning began with pancakes served with honey and homemade jam, as a farewell to summer. Lunch, consisting of thick bean soup, became a gastronomic celebration of unity.

But the most important thing, of course, was not the food, but the emotions. The farewell by the old walls of Kuldiga resembled a movie scene: hugs, promises to return, and quiet sighs. “This is not the end, this is a new chapter,” said the club leader, and these words, like Kuldiga itself, became an inspiration for future journeys and new meetings.

Epilogue: Kuldiga as the New Symbol of Golden Autumn

This event became not only a club gathering but a true journey through time and traditions. Kuldiga, with its historic landmarks and modern art, became not only a backdrop for the adventures but also the true hero of the event.

Architectural monuments, the grandeur of Davis Kļaviņš’s workshop, and the tractor championship challenges became symbols of how important it is to preserve and pass on cultural heritage through living experiences. By taking the lead in organizing the event, the club not only showed its love for travel but also a deep care for the safety, trust, and unity of its participants.

Golden Autumn in Kuldiga in 2023 will be remembered as a moment when the city became a living witness of how traditions and the new era merge into one mighty, beautiful, and inspiring event.
